AERO INDIA 2021 TO BE HELD IN BENGALURU NEXT FEBRUARY

 Bengaluru has hosted all 12 editions of Aero India, India’s flagship aviation event, since its beginning in 1996.
 Bengaluru will play host to Aero India 2021, the biennial air show and aviation exhibition, the Department of Defence Production attached to the Ministry of Defence confirmed.

11TH SESSION OF PETERSBERG CLIMATE DIALOGUE CONDUCTED VIA VIDEO CONFERENCE

 11th session of Petersberg Climate Dialogue with 30 countries including India took place on April 28, 2020, through a video conference.
 The dialogue was conducted to discuss the ways of tackling the societies and economies after COVID-19.
 This has been hosted by Germany since 2010.
 The Climate Dialogue was originally an initiative of
German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
 It is hosted by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety.
 It is o provide a forum for informal high-level political discussions, focusing both on international climate negotiations and the advancement of climate action.

BRICS FOREIGN MINISTERS DISCUSS IMPACT OF COVID-19

 India emphasizes on reforms of multilateral systems to deal with pandemic
 External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar has emphasized that the current COVID-19 challenge underlines all the more the need for reform of multilateral systems and that reformed multilateralism is the way forward.
 In his remarks at the BRICS Foreign Ministers Meeting on Coronavirus through video conference, Dr Jaishankar referred to the centrality of development and growth in the global agenda.

INDIA WILL BE SELF-RELIANT IN PRODUCING RT-PCR TESTING KITS BY MAY-END

 Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan on Tuesday said the country will be self-reliant in producing RT-PCR and antibody testing kits by May-end that will enable it to conduct one lakh tests a day.
 Reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT- PCR) is a laboratory technique combiningreverse transcription of RNA into DNA(in this context
called complementary DNA or cDNA) and amplification of specific DNA targets using polymerase chain
reaction (PCR)
 A sample is collected from parts of the body where the coronavirusgathers, such as a person’s nose or throat.
 The sample is treated with several chemical solutions that remove substances, such as proteins and fats, and extracts only the RNA present in the sample.
 This extracted RNA is a mix of a person’s own genetic
material and, if present, the coronavirus’ RNA.

CSIR TO BEGIN TRIAL ON ANTI-LEPROSY DRUG

 The Council Of Science and Industrial Research is scheduled to begin its trials on the anti-leprosy vaccine called Mw (Mycobacterium w) to see if it can be used as a Covid-19 vaccine
 Leprosy, also known as Hansen’s disease, is a chronic infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium leprae.
 The disease mainly affects the skin, the peripheral nerves, mucosal surfaces of the upper respiratory tract and the eyes.
 Leprosy is known to occur at all ages ranging from early infancy to very old age.

SC ASKS CENTRE TO CONSIDER ADOPTING ‘ONE NATION, ONE RATION CARD’ SCHEME DURING LOCKDOWN

 The loan was granted under ADB’s Covid-19 Active Response and Expenditure Support (CARES) Programme.
 This move is intended to enable the right beneficiaries get their entitlement of subsidised foodgrainseven if they are not in their home State/Union Territory.
 The scheme is expected to cover 63 crore
beneficiaries.
 Many States have already installed e-PoS machines to facilitate portability. In an effort to plug leakages, over 90 per cent ration cards have been Aadhaar seeded.
 This resulted in cancellation of over 2.98 crore ration
cards.

IMD PRESENTS NEW, NEUTRAL NAMES FOR FUTURE CYCLONES IN NORTH INDIAN OCEAN

 The India Meteorological Department (IMD) released a list of 169 new names for tropical cyclones in the north Indian Ocean region.
 The list was also issued by the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) and United Nations (UN) Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP).
 The new names were contributed by 13 member countries of the WMO/ESCAP panel on tropical cyclones (PTC).

STATE INFORMATION COMMISSIONS INACTIVE DURING COVID-19: SURVEY

 A telephone survey, conducted by the Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative, found that this was in contrast to the Central Information Commission
 The Central Information Commission is a statutory body, set up under the Right to Information Act in 2005 under the Government of India
 to act upon complaints from those individuals who have not been able to submit information requests to a Central Public Information Officer or State Public Information Officer due to either the officer not have been appointed, or because the respective Central Assistant Public Information Officer or State Assistant Public Information Officer refused to receive the application for information under the Right to Information Act
 The commission includes one chief information commissioner and not more than ten information commissioners who are appointed by the President of India on the recommendation of a committee consisting of the Prime Minister as Chairperson, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha; a Union Cabinet Minister to be nominated by the Prime Minister.
 Two women have been chief information commissioners: Deepak Sandhu (fourth chief information commissioner overall) and Sushma Singh (fifth overall).
