Kerala PSC KAS 2023: Kerala Administrative Service (KAS) is the administrative cadre allocated under the government of Kerala and was initiated in the year 2018. The exam was conducted in the year 2020 for the first time with more than 5.5 lakh candidates appearing from all streams. The selection process for this stream of exams includes a three-tier recruitment combined with 18-month-long training. Further, a separate string of public servant cadres will be created under this recruitment.

The Administrative Reforms Commission (ARC) is a commission appointed by the Government of India that reviews and monitors the public administration system of India. ARC representing the Kerala state has been suggesting the formation of Kerala Administrative Services for a while and it came into existence in 2018. And KAS has been an essential manifesto among the significant implementation of the LDF government in Kerala.

This specially created cadre with the prime objective of creating a line of officers who can potentially contribute their skills in governance can really help in improving the efficiency of middle-level management.

KAS Notification

The last KAS Notification was released on Nov 1 2019. This year we were informed that the release of the notifcation will be done on Nov 1 2023. Contrary to our expectations the KAS Notification was not released. It is believed that the delay was caused due to the pending procedures that are to be done before the release of such an impactful Notification. However, it will be soon completed and the KAS Notification will be released shortly. Now we can only expect the KAS Notification to be released before the end of 2023 or by the beginning of 2024.

KAS Exam 2023

KAS exam was last conducted in the year 2020. The exam was held on 22nd February with anticipated vacancies. This time the aspirants were in expectation for the notification to be released in the first week of November. Unfortunately, it was not released. But, once the notification is released, one should be prepared to write the examination within a short time as last time only 3 month gap was present between the KAS Notification and exam date. If the Notification is released in December-January, we can expect the KAS Exam to be conducted in March-April. However, you don't have to wait for the release of the notification as you may not get enough time. You can start preparing as soon as possible so that you can excel in the examination. Remember, the more you revise, the more ready you are.

KAS Recruitment Process

The exam will be conducted in a three-tier format with a preliminary exam, a main-level exam, and a personal interview.

The preliminary exam or KAS phase-1 exam consists of a total of 200 marks for 1 hour 30 minutes which consists of Paper I (General Studies consisting of two parts), paper-II (Language Proficiency- Malayalam/ Tamil/ Kannada), and Language Proficiency in English.

The KAS Mains level exam consists of three papers with 100 marks each and each paper has 2 hours time limit.

Subsequently, after qualifying the Mains level successfully, there will be an interview session for 50 marks.

The main-level exam can be written in either Malayalam or English language. The marks obtained in the preliminary exam will not be considered for the final ranking and hence will be qualifying in nature.

KAS Educational Qualification

All aspirants who aim for Kerala Administrative Services must have obtained a Bachelor’s degree including a professional course in any subject from a university established by the Government of Kerala or UGC or awarded by National Institutes established by the Government of Kerala.
