The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released the CTET 2026 notification for the 21st Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET). The CTET 2026 exam is scheduled on 8 February 2026 and it takes place in 132 cities across India in 20 different languages as per CBSE guidelines.

What is CTET?

The Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) is conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to assess the eligibility of candidates for teaching positions in Classes 1 to 8 in schools across India. Qualifying CTET is mandatory for candidates who wish to become teachers in Central Government schools such as KVS, NVS and other CBSE-affiliated schools.

CTET Eligibility Criteria 2026

To apply for the CTET 2026 exam, candidates must meet the CTET eligibility criteria 2026 set by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). The required CTET qualifications differ for each paper based on the teaching level. Candidates must fulfill any one of the following CTET 2026 eligibility conditions for Paper 1 and Paper 2.

For Paper I (Classes 1–5 – Primary Level):

  • Passed Senior Secondary (or equivalent) with at least 50% marks and completed 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed)
  • Passed Senior Secondary with 45% marks and completed 2-year D.El.Ed (as per NCTE norms)
  • Completed Graduation and a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education

For Paper II (Classes 6–8 – Upper Primary Level):

  • Graduated with at least 50% marks and completed B.Ed

Passed Senior Secondary with 50% marks and completed a 4-year B.El.Ed, B.Ed or B.Sc.Ed.
